In steps toward holy obedience, Foster suggests keeping a spiritual journal.
Do you keep a journal?
How do you journal? Do you have a daily time when you journal or do you just do it when the mood strikes you to write something down?
What kinds of things do you journal--prayers, things you've read/heard, questions, experiences, dreams?
Have you found journaling to be a helpful spiritual practice? Why or why not?
I just started doing a prayer journal during Lent and I have really enjoyed it. It seems like when I sit down to write, the prayers seem to flow out of my pen. And later I can look back and see the prayers God has answered!
ReplyDeleteI've been keeping a journal since before kids (which is probably a good thing because if I hadn't started then, I probably wouldn't have realized I have time to keep it up now). The things I write about change over time... reflections on scripture passages or something I read, prayers (probably not as much as I could), things I'm wrestling with in my faith journey, what I think I believe (which may change once I put it down on paper and re-read it, but that's part of the process), joys. The one constant is that journaling is an ongoing conversation with God... it's time I spend with God each day and it helps center me and remind me that God is there.
